To stand out in a world of fashion where there exists brands that are solely there for "hype" or "clout", where there are garments and designs that feed into fake lifestyle bullshit. Don't get me wrong, its perfectly fine to support this if that's what you're truly into.
But to create a new wave, to present a new and different philosophy into the world of fashion and design is a challenge that I and others out there are tackling.
I launched my project [HARD LIGHT] for a goal to do exactly this in a way that is natural and not for fake purposes. [HARD LIGHT] to me is an art project that takes its form in fashion, it stems from my experiences in life and is inspired by cross culture conflicts within multi-cultural areas.
I've designed with that idea in mind which naturally resulted in examining my background and what stands out from it which is, in terms of physical things, is architecture that is very raw and dilapidated. Then, incorporating established artistic ideas, I found that brutalism applies here. What resulted in the end is an esoteric, dystopian and unorthodox design language which when applied to clothing came out to have a "DIY" type look or aesthetic.
The first collection that released recently consists of three shirts that incorporate different ways of manipulating fabrics and other appliques such as paint, dye and tape. When tied back to my original statement I've created clothing that does not feed into "hype", "clout" or whatever word you want to describe fake and instead stands out as its own identity that goes against this in a sincere and natural way. I want to promote fashion that stands out and goes against what normal "streetwear" looks like.
If you are interested in this or want to support this philosophy of design that matters then ill link website and social media at the end.
I'm wholeheartedly invested in this and I know that this way of thinking is embedded into me as a result of how I grew up and what I've experienced.
Thank you for reading this if you did, that's all I hope to gain.
